Under 14’s Tooradin-Dalmore vs Cranbourne Blue

Tooradin-Dalmore 7 6 48
Cranbourne Blue 6 12 48

Last game of the season and Tooradin hosted Cranbourne at Rutter Park. The team needed to win to make certain they played finals and if they lost would have to rely on other results going their way. From the opening bounce it with a tight contest with both teams playing a hard competitive brand of football. Tooradin scored early then Cranbourne not to be out done hit back and at quarter time break Tooradin held a slim lead. Over the next two quarters there was no more than a goal in the score as both teams struggled to convert opportunities and get a clear advantage over their opposition. The last quarter saw Cranbourne kick clear but Tooradin rallied to bring them within two points. A missed attempt on goal with only a minute and a half left on the clock saw Tooradin get within one point. Tooradin kept the ball locked in the forward 50 and with seconds left, managed to get some clear space for a shot on goal but it was called touched, the siren sounded and the match was a draw. We are super proud of the team, they’ve qualified for finals and anything can happen. Go Seagulls

Tooradin-Dalmore 9 8 62

Tooradin travelled to Carlisle Park to take on Cora Lynn with both teams fighting to stay in the top 4 and play finals.

After 3 weeks of losses the team was focused on getting back to playing the brand of football that we knew we could deliver.

The team was switched on from the first bounce and with a change to the way the team lined up Tooradin took the advantage early and hit the scoreboard with 4 unanswered first term goals.

The second term saw Cora Lynn regroup and challenge the Tooradin backline but they stood strong and kept Cora Lynn scoreless again.

Our transition and ball movement saw Tooradin dominate the play in the third term. Handball linkup and accuracy by foot allowed Tooradin to have multiple forward 50 entries resulting in 2 goals. Again the team as a whole worked tirelessly to keep the opposition scoreless.

In the last quarter the players continued to push knowing that percentage would be important in cementing our spot in the top 4. The mids again dominated and ball movement through our half forwards saw more forward 50 entries and another 3 goals. Tooradin eventually ran out 61pt winners.

Sunday we played away at Ross Reserve and the first quarter Brock Ryan as our ruckman kept winning the hits outs and he also put us first on the score board with the first goal of the game. Well done Brock for winning pretty much all the hit outs. Every player yesterday knew it was going to be a tough game playing against the second team, last time we played we got smashed, yesterday proved that if we play as a team and they all put in effort they have the potential to beat top teams.
Another stand out to the game was Kasy Deren who played one of his best games of the year and everywhere the ball was he was there to win the ball to our end. Jett Lowndes also played one of his best games of the year with some great marks and going in hard. I could mention so many but everyone played fantastic and should be so proud of their game even though we lost, to our coaches it was a win to us. All the parents were so happy with how we played yesterday and we walked off smiling because it was a very close game. Let’s take this game as a big positive and show that we still have a chance to beat the top team. A massive congratulations to Sebastian Cooke who played his 50th game.

Today we travelled to Upper Beaconsfield to take on Beaconsfield Blue. With finals approaching it was important that the team secured a win after recent losses.

The first quarter saw Beaconsfield get off to a strong start and put on early goals. Tooradin was able to hit the scoreboard, when Jessie Craven returning from injury snapped from a pack to reduce the margin to 11 pts.

The second quarter was a tight contest with limited scoring. Tooradin had the majority of the play but was unable to convert any goals.

During the third term Tooradin’s backline continued to work hard only conceding 1 goal from multiple Beaconsfield forward entries. Tooradin was still in the contest and the coach rallied the team to give it their all in the last term.

The majority of the play was in Tooradin’s forward half all quarter. Brodie Campbell conveyed a set shot from a strong pack mark and reduced the margin back to 15pts. The backline held Beaconsfield scoreless in the last half but time ran out and Beaconsfield were worthy winners on the day.

Under 14’s Tooradin-Dalmore vs Endeavour Hills

Tooradin-Dalmore     2        3        15
Endeavour Hills     11        5        71

Tooradin U14’s met top of the ladder Endeavour Hills at Carlisle Park in true wintertime conditions.

Coming off two recent losses meant a strong showing against the Eagles was needed to help get the season back on track and keep finals aspirations alive.

The first quarter was a tight contest with both sides having equal share of the ball. Endeavour Hills kicked two quick goals from turnovers in their forward half but Liam Simpson playing with a broken thumb snapped around his body and kept the margin to 10 points at quarter time.

In the second quarter Endeavour Hills stamped their  authority on the game and went on a scoring spree. Tooradin’s midfield was providing first use, led by Cooper Bassett and Brodie Campbell, but the commitment from Eagles players across the board meant they took a 41pt lead into half time.

The third quarter saw Tooradin win more clearances and gave the forwards opportunities but this wasn’t reflected on the scoreboard as conditions made scoring difficult. When Tyler Kirkbride was shifted onto the ball, a passage of quick ball movement saw James Ahern take a strong mark and under pressure convert the only goal of the term. Great work from all our backline who managed to keep the eagles to only 1 point for the term. A great effort of self-belief and hard work after a difficult second quarter.

The final term saw scoring from the Eagles continue but the Tooradin backline continued their hard work and didn’t let the opposition dominate the whole day. The midfield was solid all match and didn’t give up at any stage. Under pressure they played their roles and kept their heads up and fought to the end.

Best: Cooper Bassett, Brodie Campbell, Charlie Shinners, Tyler Kirkbride, Vasili Papas.

Cora Lynn 0 0 0
Tooradin-Dalmore 7 7 49

Great game on Sunday by the Seagulls, they absolutely smashed it out there. They all followed instructions, worked as a team and between them all they managed to set up lots of scoring shots. It’s not always about who kicks the goals as it takes a whole team effort to put a score on the board. Great pressure in defence and fantastic skills and smarts when attacking the ball. Brilliant game to watch, so proud!

Round 9 saw the under 11’s head out to Noble Park. Under heavy fog and cold conditions the boys went goalless in the first quarter. Lucas Davies got us on the board in a tight second quarter. In the third quarter the whole team really lifted led by the midfield and a 3 goal quarter up forward by Hudson Rogers. Cody Ray kicked our only goal of the last quarter as Noble Park hit back hard but the boys managed to hang on to a 2 point win. Sensational win boys considering we had no bench for the day. Well done!

Well on Sunday we were up against Pakenham Blue who are sitting top of the ladder which meant we had our work cut out for us. In the extremely cold and foggy conditions we took the field and tried our best against the top side however they were just too strong for us. The boys fought hard and we managed a goal in the last quarter.
A massive thanks to all the boys who played up today.

Under 14’s Tooradin-Dalmore vs Noble Park

Tooradin-Dalmore 0 5 5
Noble Park 7 7 49

On a foggy Sunday afternoon 18 Tooradin Seagulls took to their rather foggy nest. Whilst they couldn’t see each other, their opponents or the goal posts they continued to play the game until Noble Park called the game off because they felt it was too foggy and deemed it unsafe to play.
The Seagulls weren’t happy with this call because at the time they were winning and wanted to finish the game.
There was a lot of discussion; and calls made from Coaches to Presidents to umpires to SEJ to help decide what the rulings were. Finally, after 45 minutes the game was to continue or a forfeit was to be made on behalf of Noble Park. The Seagulls were up and about, ready to go out and play some serious foggy footy.
I’m not sure whether the anger of the Noble bulls got them all fired up or the confidence of our gulls made them over confident but what ensued next was not what was expected. The gulls were behind, timid and seemed scared of going in hard, except for Vasili Papas.
We did not kick a goal for the entire match, surely it was because we couldn’t see the posts? Why then did the Noble bulls kick 7? A game we will remember sourly.

Sunday was a low scoring game in under 10’s but gee was it played out with plenty of heart. Both teams were strong in defence, Tooradin laid lots of hard tackles and worked hard at the bottom of the packs. The mid fielders were under intense pressure as the ball travelled up and down the field consistently, there was minimal rest for all players. Overall the coaching staff are super proud of the Seagulls efforts today, they were hard, they worked as a team and were always positive. Well done, rest up tonight guys you deserve it.

What a great game we witnessed on Sunday by our under 12s. Firstly welcome back to Riley Fengler who had his first game today and even snagged a goal. Well done! Callum Scorah also had his first game back after a few weeks off from an injury. He played an outstanding game just like everyone of the players, who all played well using their skill and effort. All 19 players should be so proud of this win today. Today was a great competition by both teams. The last quarter Cranbourne fought back with it only being minutes away from the final siren to be only a goal the difference when Jack kicked it to Summah in the last minutes. For Summah to fight to get a quick hold to kick the winning goal. Well done to Cranbourne for a great game. GO SEAGULLS.

Under 14’s Berwick Springs Green vs Tooradin-Dalmore

Berwick Springs Green 0 6 6
Tooradin-Dalmore 16 12 108

After a week off period and under 14’s travelled to Berwick To take on Berwick Springs Green.

The team started fast and with ruck and clearance domination from the centre, we had plenty of entries into our forward 50 resulting in four goals and a handy lead at quarter time.

During the second quarter our midfield again got on top of Berwick Springs and even though Berwick was able to transition the ball into their forward line, our backs led by Liam Simpson kept them from scoring.

The third quarter saw the team play some of its best football for the past year. Their ball movement, linking up and skills by foot and hand saw repeated forward 50 entries and we were able to put on eight goals for the quarter.

With no available players on the bench due to injury it meant that everyone had to perform in the last term. To their credit the whole team lifted and every player across all positions delivered as per the coaches message to take your opportunities when they come. The team ran out convincing winners by 102pts.

Goals: Tyler Kirkbride 4, Panos Papas 3, Brodie Matthews 2, Bailey Wear 2, Joshua Shipton 2, Brody Campbell, Jai Williams, Matthew Ward

Under 14’s Cranbourne Blue vs Tooradin-Dalmore

Cranbourne Blue 8 4 52
Tooradin-Dalmore 8 11 59

Tooradin Dalmore travelled to Camms Rd Reserve to take on Cranbourne Blue.
Having not played Cranbourne before it was hard to know what to expect. The first quarter saw Tooradin score quickly from centre clearances. Panos Papas was lively in the forward line and proved accurate in front of goal, giving us a handy lead. Cranbourne applied plenty of pressure around the contest and was able to score against the wind and the run of play.

The second term saw Cranbourne start to assert itself in the middle and were able to get on top of the Tooradin midfield. This resulted in some quick scoring and the margin quickly reduced to 16 points.

With a challenge from the coach at half time to lift their work rate around the ball, the mids started to win the footy in the packs and combining with our wings started to provide the Tooradin forwards more opportunities. Panos Papas continued his straight kicking and along with Brodie Campbell & Jai Williams extended our lead.

The final quarter saw Cranbourne kicking with the wind and when their midfield started to win clearances, they kicked 3 quick goals to draw within one point. With only two minutes remaining Tooradin’s midfield won a crucial centre clearance, drove the ball into our forward line and Brodie Campbell finished a best on ground performance by winning a disputed ball and calmly going back and kicking the winning goal.

A great effort by the team under intense pressure from the opposition all day.

Goals: Panos Papas 4, Brodie Campbell 3, Jai Williams 1.

Under 14’s Tooradin-Dalmore vs Cora Lynn FC

Tooradin-Dalmore     8        8        56

Cora Lynn            1        5        11

After a good win last Sunday and a strong week on the training track, Tooradin U14’s hosted Cora Lynn at home.

Kicking with the wind in the first quarter the midfield quickly asserted itself on the opposition with good ball use and quick hands. Brodie Campbell’s ruck work was dominate and gave the mids first use of the ball. Multiple entries provided plenty of opportunity and continuing his good form, Tyler Kirkbride hit the scoreboard giving the team a 3 goal lead at quarter time.

The backline who have played well together all year worked hard during the second term as Cora Lynn, kicking with the wind, started to get into the game. Cora Lynn scored early in the quarter but the backline pressure only conceded the one goal. Not being discouraged the team started to move the ball by hand against the wind and with a fast entry into our forward line Tyler Dalgleish marked in front of goal and converted to give the team an 18pt lead at half time.

The 3rd quarter saw the boys continue to run and carry the ball, the backline kept the opposition scoreless and with one of the best goals of the year, Brodie Matthews on the wing gathered the ball and streaming into forward fifty with multiple bounces, steadied and delivered and goal from 35mtrs out. Two further goals saw the margin extended to 38pts.

Cora Lynn kicking with the wind in the last quarter threatened early and again the backline stood up and didn’t drop their heads once. The mids continued to provide run and carry and the teams tackling pressure was relentless. Another goal saw the margin extend to 45pts as Cora Lynn were again kept scoreless in the quarter.

Under 14’s Tooradin-Dalmore vs Beaconsfield Blue

Tooradin-Dalmore 5 5 35
Beaconsfield Blue 2 3 15

Tooradin hosted Beaconsfield Blue at home on Sunday. The Tooradin midfield started strongly and with early centre clearances were able to provide multiple forward 50 entries.
Liam Simpson playing at full forward used good positioning and took two strong marks in front of goal. He converted both kicks and the team took an 11pt lead into the quarter time break. The second term started as a real arm wrestle with neither side able to hot the scoreboard. The game was temporarily suspended when an accidental clash between two Beaconsfield players resulted in one being taken to hospital with concussion.
The game resumed in the 3rd term and Beaconsfield started to get more drive in their forward line. The Tooradin backline who had combined well all day managed to keep Beaconsfield goalless in the quarter. Tooradin’s only goal of the quarter was from a long range kick from Tyler Kirkbride which was great reward from a player who is always competing. In the final term Beaconsfield continued to pressure the Tooradin backline and started to get on top. They converted their opportunities and put on two unanswered goals to reduce the margin to a goal. The Tooradin midfielders continued to battle and provide run across the ground and when Panos Papas converted, followed by Brodie Matthews, the game was out of reach for Beaconsfield.
Goals: Liam Simpson 2, Brodie Matthews 1, Panos Papas 1, Tyler Kirkbride 1.
Well done to all the boys on their win! Go Seagulls.
